EdWeek 2018 - theme and dates announced

This year's Education Week will be held from Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August 2018 (Term 3, Week 3). The theme for Education Week is ‘Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world'. This theme communicates how NSW public schools are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing, globalised world. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold. The Curriculum Comes Alive! Our Park Rules!

Last year students at Marrickville Public School (MPS) put forward their dream of a greener, more sustainable and playful outdoor area in the national My Park Rules competition. Today they were announced the winner, receiving over $100,000 of support to create their design vision. Organized by 202020 Vision and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), the competition called on pre-schools, day care centres, primary and high schools from around the country to submit ideas on how to reinvigorate their outdoor spaces. Happy New Year - First Days

Welcome to 2016! It's already shaping up to be a beautiful year - the grass is green and the walls are vibrant. Just a quick reminder that staff return on Wednesday 27th January, while students in Years 1-6 return on Thursday 28th January. Students should put their bags in the same spot as last year and when the first bell goes, we'll meet in the hall, sitting in 2015 class groups - we'll be 'holding' our 2015 classes for a short time until 2016 numbers have been confirmed. MPS - NSW State Finalist for My Park Rules!

Hold on to your hats, Marrickville.... Our school has just been announced as the My Park Rules NSW Finalist! This means we will have our playground professionally designed! And it means we're in National Finals against the other state and territories to have the playground built. Applications for student travel 2016

From 2 November 2015, a new online SSTS application process is being introduced for schools within the Opal network, coinciding with the introduction of the School Opal card. Schools outside the Opal network should continue to process the existing blue SSTS application forms and send them to the appropriate transport operators. Most parents, guardians and students won't need to apply for a school travel pass for 2016 if they have already been given a school student travel pass for the current year.
